Two House Groups are now running, both using the York Course material called ‘Handing on the Torch’, about how the church should respond to modern secular society. One is on Wednesday evenings at 8.00 pm at 10 Kenwood Road, and one on Tuesdays at 2.00 pm at15 Clifford Road.

Celebration Big Sing    To explore the new Methodist hymnbook ‘Singing the Faith’. At 6.00 pm on Saturday 18th February at Banner Cross Methodist Church. Tea and cakes from 5.00 pm.

Shrove Tuesday Community Song Night, 21st February starting with pancakes from 7.15pm and singing from 7.30pm in church. Come and join us for a great evening of singing songs (traditional/modern) led by local vocalist, Richard Parry. Admission free. Small charge for refreshments. Donations welcome for the Shirley House Redevelopment Appeal.

Concert in aid of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice   Thursday 23 February, 7.30pm in church. Young Musicians’ Concert by ensembles from the Sheffield Education Music Service, featuring the Ewden Orchestra, the Junior Flute Choir and the Sheffield Youth Big Band. Tickets: £5, Concessions £4. ‘Who is Your Neighbour?’ Learning Event: 10.00 am-4.30 pm Tuesday 28th February at St Mary’s Bramall Lane. ‘Who is Your Neighbour?’ is a project to challenge prejudice and intolerance in South Yorkshire, and has been running for two years. This is a day to share what has been learned and gain more ideas from participants. 

Law and Justice in the Old Testament    The Beauchief Abbey Lent Lectures will again be given in St Andres's Psalter Lane Church beginning at 7.00pm on Wednesday 29th February and four subsequent Wednesdays. The speaker will be the renowned Old Testament scholar, the Revd Professor John Rogerson.

The Lord’s Prayer – 5 evenings to explore how to pray by  the Bishop of Sheffield at the Cathedral, starting at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 29th February.

Meeting God in the Everyday   A District Quiet Day with the President and Vice President of the Methodist Conference 10.00 am-4.00 pm Saturday 3rd March at Apperknowle Methodist Church. Book at admin@sheffieldmethodist.org

The Golden Age of Comedy  A black & white movie show featuring stars of the 20s and 30s, in church on Saturday 3 March at 7.00 pm. Please dress in the style of the 20s and 30s if you dare!! Made in Dagenham     Wednesday 14 March, 10.30am (finish at 12.30), at the Showroom Cinema, Paternoster Row. Methodist Women in Britain, Sheffield, has organised a special showing of the film Made in Dagenham in solidarity with International Women’s Day and Millenium Development Goal 3: Promoting gender equality and empowering women. We have 110 tickets to sell so hope you can spread the word far and wide about it. Tickets are available from Circuit MWiB secretaries or from Chris Simmonds, District MWiB secretary (01246 251599 or chris@simmonds4041.fsnet.co.uk) Travel directions to the cinema will be on the back of the tickets, and there is easy access to the cinema from Paternoster Row and wheelchair spaces in the auditorium – it would help to know in advance if these are required. There is a loop system in the cinema so everyone should be able to hear and we can ask for the sound to be turned down if it’s too loud!
